People, I need some recommendations for audio interfaces. I'm after something just to hook my monitors up to my PC really, so all it needs is 2 line outs. I've got an mbox2 atm, but looking to move that on.

    Criteria is basically:

    • Cheap and basic, but still a decent sound quality
    • On the small side, so it's not taking up much desk space
    • No special software requirements or ish like the mbox has got, so I can switch the device between computers.
    • Ideally USB connected

All advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for the suggestions, exactly the sort of things I'm after.

Tyler can you get the emu as the default soundcard on your computer? Mbox wont allow you too and that's always bugged me as I've got these great monitors sitting there but can only use them for audio programs and Winamp.

A friend of mine recently decided between these two:

    Roland

    Novation

I haven't used any of them, so I cannot really comment on them. The Roland one speaks to me more since the Novation interface is more DJ orientated.

I bought the PreSonus AudioBox and I am having some trouble with FL studio. It will play sounds from the default template but when I load a project I can't get any sound to come out.

Then when I finally did get sound coming it was going great until about 1 minute in the track and it started going all distorted. I am sure this is software and not hardware (cables, etc.) because the interfaces plays other mp3s fine.

    Any idea here guys?

Looks like I had to change some buffer options under the audio settings for the AudioBox driver which is BTW an ASIO driver.
