The C major scale is a scale that everyone learns but I want you to know that there are other major scales...
There are 12...there are only 12 notes on the keyboard..and then they repeat...each note has its own key...and the note C is just one of them...
There is a pattern that I will show you that creates the major scale sound...now after learning this pattern you will be able to play the C major scale...The Db major scale...the Eb major scale..the F# major scale..etc....

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRAW ON HERE...I WANTED TO DRAW A KEYBOARD TO ILLUSTRATE WHAT I'M SAYING BUT UNTIL THEN...

The Major Scales pattern is the following:     w= Whole Step.....h=Half Step
    w,w,h,w,w,w,h

A Whole Step is two tones...
A Half Step is 1 Tone...
Doesn't matter if its a black or white key...
now if you know where the note C  and D is at on the keyboard...
you would notice that there is a black key in between them two..
so if you count that tone and the D while coming from C...you would count 2 tones..the black key C# and then the D...
once you understand how to read the patterns...you would be able to learn the other keys and understand more of the theory

i find it easier to look at it as numbers... no matter where you start, the numbers represent how many keys from that one you go up (including the black keys of course).... MAJOR:2-2-1-2-2-2-1
    HARMONIC MINOR:2-1-2-2-1-3-1
    PENTATONIC MAJOR:2-2-3-2-3
    PENTATONIC MINOR:3-2-2-3-2
    BLUES:3-2-1-1-3-2
    GOSPEL:2-1-1-3-2-3
no matter where you start, you'll always have that type of scale......
