Since I don't like compression much on individual parts of a track. Is it alright to instead compress the entire track when finished to bring up some of the lower parts and getting everything to sound full and balanced.

there is nothing wrong with it, though it depends on your mix, but if you compress the whole thing use it gently

you obviously like how it sound, since you describe it that way.. so if it sounds good then it alright btw many people do put a compressor or a multiband compressor on the master, even though they also use it on individual parts as well

If you like it better that way its cool, but if your going for commercial results its a no go tbh.

do realize that slapping a compressor on the master channel does not = compression of instruments tht need it

Soopa is right here, it's much better to go through and compress everything individually. But what really matters is what it sounds like to you. If you like the way it's turning out then why change anything.

Well it's not either you do it on individual tracks or on the master... you can do both like you can do none, or just one of those compressions... It usually doesnt effect the track the same, has not the same purpose etc.

In anyway, it's a possibility to put a compressor on the master. People often use it to "glue" a mix, in other terms, to have a more cohesion between the instruments...
Compressing the master track is often refered as 2bus compression.
