it's not gonna be professional-studio quality, but it'll be better than nothing.

it's only better if you somewhat know what you're doing. some people try to "master" their tracks by making them loud.

it's not going to sound the same in your car as it does on your monitoring system that you mix on. just as a cd you play in your car won't sound the same on your system either. listen to a cd on your monitoring system. when you mix, try to get your mix as close to that as possible. a good mix on your monitoring system should translate well to any system, but it won't sound the same due to the other systems coloring the sound.

^ What he said. The purpose of mastering is to make your song sound MOSTLY the same on 99% of all listening devices.

thanks you all for the advice and everyone who took the time to listen to my track. I gonna start to build my home studio here soon. But I wanted to ask you what should i look for in a sound card. Awhile ago i picked up a hurcules MK4 midi and it says it has a built in sound card. I hate asking about a particular product but i really have no idea what im doing when it comes to sound.

The sound card won't have a huge effect on output (unless it has certain outs that you're looking for).

So if you're going to be recording, keep looking into soundcards. If you aren't, save the money and spend it on something else.

"don't even need a seperate subwoofer (in fact, I would actually advise against it if your room is not acoustically treated); mine were only $300 and they're just as powerful sophisticated as anything in the 1k range."

They are not. I have those at home. Don't get me wrong i use them every day but they are not even close to $500 range monitors.
And yeah for those i would def advise sub even in untreated room. It has planty of options (BX10) to set it up for room that is not ac treated

"Lol – watching loads of tutorials won’t do anything but teach you some theory. To professionally master a track, you require a good ear, and professional equipment."

No... All you need is trained ear (not necessary good lol) and room treated for mastering

"In reality, a master will not make a mix sound better. A great mix, can make a master sound good though. "

True... Bad mix will make song sound even wors

Megiddo

I'll not copy your posts but i agree with everything you said...

"A lesser form, yes, but true mastering in the traditional sense? Not really. I mean, not without the acoustic room treatment the expensive gear and all those engineers...... "

Yep, agree with everything sept expensive gear. If you have a good accoustic design for mastering and only mastering that means you can hear stuff exactly how they sound (not 100% true but yeah), in that case you can use cheaper vst's or anything as long you can hear how those (vst's) really sound.

I mean... If that would be true than you wouldn't even be able to mix without expensive gear... Whats the difference? (retorical question lol)

"But look at what I do, and a few other users do this too btw: Don't put anything on the Master channel of your original mix, save it as a .wav file (24 or 32 bit), and create a new FL Project file called "mastering""

Yes, i wouldn't even use FL for mastering though. I would rather use Soundforge or wavelab that are kinda designed for it

"As for one plugin that could allow you to create a mix to sound good in every kind of environment, you've gotta check out ISONE PRO"

Isone is for mixing with headphones... Like monitor/speakers emulator for yor headphones... Not shure of it cos i think thats just fancy eq... Like that mic emulator from Antares (thats discounted ofcourse)

"i got 4 m-audio av30's and they still dont sound the same when i listen to them in my car n shit. it will all sound perfect on these speakers tho. is there somethin i need to know?"

Well, yeah...lol you need to know you'r not using monitors. Those are ordinary speakers that looks like "monitors"...lol

"^ What he said. The purpose of mastering is to make your song sound MOSTLY the same on 99% of all listening devices."

This have no sence... Every speaker have its own, lets call it built in eq curve so how can song sound same on different systems?

(btw it seems im attacking you or something...lol Im not, im just bored and have nothing against you lol)

Purpose of mastering is to make song sound best it could be for home audio "systems" and clubs (not tv and radio cos engineers there limit it even more)

Clonclusion

If you are making album/songs than you should def think about pro mastering.
But if you're doing beats you should learn atleast basic of it. Or in worst case atleast lear to use master limiter
