    In a way I think it's true..

I can't think of any guy friends I have that shell out $$$ to Itunes for singles or albums. Everyone just jacks the songs they like off the internet.

The girls however are more than willing to pay their parents money for the latest Beiber remake of Generic Christmas Album No. 9.

The only counter-argument I can come up with is that guys WILL pay for concerts and other live shows.

As much as I hate to say it, Beiber is huge, along with other artists that I generally consider girl friendly music (Katy Perry, That Gaga Thing, Rihanna and her love songs).

So since girls spend the majority of $$$ on songs, in a way they run the music industry.

Yea man that is how it is. The industry would change so much if people especially guys started to buy the albums of the people they like. I mean I don't think you should buy every rappers album that you like, but if you have a favorite rapper atleast support him. My two favorite rappers are Nas and Lupe and everytime they drop an album I buy it. What can you do though? People on the blogs keep asking for "real" hiphop but when a "real" hiphop album drops they are the first to go download it... smh.

Its because grown folk(including myself) have the illusion that they cant actually purchase albums inbetween all the bills to food to alcohol at the club to bills again. But back when it was the only way to listen to the albums everybody had their own library.

Like the others have said, kids buy the music because they're the ones with the money burning a hole their pocket and they can afford to spend it on any old cr*p ,where as I have to spend mine on bills and food !!!!

Plus seeing as they're only kids they're not old enough to waste it on stuff like beer and cigs ha ha !!!!

Idk, some of the music now may be more damaging to young minds and bodies than alcohol and tobacco

those kids get their parents to pay for the albums most of the time. also if the music is somewhat "clean" or appears "clean" in nature, then they parents also buy it. more of the suburban population purchases music. the urban population is more inclined to go to a show. and also anything that women like, most of the time the guys want to have it to impress the women. i agree, that kids and women kind of drive the industry as far as what comes out mainstream. as far as what TR said, that's exactly what has happened. people feel like they can't afford stuff anymore. and that came about when record stores were charging 20 bucks for a cd. best buy over here still has new releases (hard copies) for about 9.99 to 12.99. thats about the same as on itunes. they do go up after a few weeks tho. 10 bucks is not a lot for music unless you are REALLY struggling.

It's true, in a way, media target "13 yr olds." No joke. Why? Because, people under and over 13 can grasp it. Target older crowds, you lose the kiddies, target the kiddies, you lose the grown-ups. Can't remember what the fancy name for this is, but, it was taught to me in a telecommunications course, no joke. And it's pretty much any media corp that broadcasts, rather than narrowcasts media. It's profit, plain and simple. Once you over 21, you have to seek media targeted towards you. With larger than two syllable words and mature ideology. Since popular music is primarily sold through mainstream broadcasting, you can be certain NOT to hear much depth there. And since, kids have $$$ at younger and younger ages, you better believe that the trend will continue. The media wanna market to everything that can carry a dollar bill. That's the way they do it. The older you get, the more noticible the phenomenon becomes. Dumb it down!
