Hey guys, I've been producing for 8 months now using FL Studio, and I've been relying on tweaking Nexus samples (using EQ and adjusting the parameters on the VST to tweak the sound). After producing my latest song though 1 month ago, I've been thinking that it would be better for me to start learning how to use synthesizer VSTs to create/tweak my sounds, because a lot of the Nexus samples have inbuilt noise and distortion that I can't tweak out or change. I've been having pretty much no luck with Sytrus though (after two weeks of using it) and even though I understand the basic functions of the oscillators, filters and FX, I haven't had any success with creating my own synth from scratch, and I've only had margianal success with editing patches (I'm still getting used to the layout and the various types of effects I can use) and I can only tweak them very slightly.

The sounds I'm trying to get are similar to the Nexus sounds (in particular the Dance-style leads that Nexus uses) but I haven't found any tutorials on them specifically, so creating these leads from scratch is out of the question. I'm wondering if you guys know any good-quality Dance lead patches, similar to the sounds on Nexus, though, that I can edit and learn that way whilst still making my songs (I haven't produced anything for a while, so I want to preferably carry on making songs instead of sprnding all my time faffing around with sytrus). Any guides as to the various envelopes (I only really understand the volume envelope on the oscillator and the LFO envelope on the filter) and filter effects that are on sytrus would be really appreciated too. If any of you would be kind enough to link me to a tutorial on how to make a dance lead similar to the sounds I'm looking for, or create one yourself for Sytrus, or, well, any good synthesizer that you use, it'd be much appreciated.

give sounddesign a try. layers, tweaking, eq and effects are the key. you can create a lot of great synth by using the different fl reverb and delay plugins and play with rerverb and delay time plus using inverted delay or ping pong effect.there are a lot of "how to create a... synth"-videos on youtube. a lot of good tutorials are offered by "howtomakeelectronicmusic".
