The Dre Beats aren't really made for mixing..

http://www.headphoneinfo.com/content/Monster-Beats-by-Dr--Dre-Headphones-Review-544/Performance.htm

The freq response isn't terrible, but not as good as cheaper headphones really made for studio mixing and not sounding/looking cool. Look at producer interviews.. you won't see anybody wearing Dre Beats in the studio. You'll see producers wearing brands like Senheiser and BeyerDynamic.

If I had $ to blow on whatever I wanted, I would definitely pick some up for general listening, just not in the studio.

True, but at the same time I'm not using the beats. I'm using the studio edition headphones, not sure if its much difference with the review you showed me Nance. The explaination for the beats after reading the box today says "Artists and producers spend countless hours fine-tuning and mixing music to get it exactly how they want their fans to hear it. But the vast majority of headphones can’t accurately reproduce the intricacies produced in the studio. Simply put,Studios can. With precision-engineered, advanced speaker design, powered amplification, and powered noise cancellation, you hear music the way today’s top artists and producers want you to hear." So maybe they may be EQ'd, but I'm almost certain there not, I can't find a review on the studios that are given by a top producer and that just may be the downfall to the beats. I still enjoy to use them, and the bitches still love it, but if you can get cheaper headphones with better freq responses then by all means buy those, but I use these headphones daily and I still love em.

I missed that part, my guess would be that if they are a "studio edition" or something of that sort then the freq response is made for just that.

Props to you for picking those up rather than the regular. Either way, I would still love to have some

Interesting perspective. I used to use headphones to mix, master, and produce. Although now I've purchased some better speakers, and even though they're not monitors they're a world away from the headphones. My mixes/mastering is much more crisp and level (due to the ability to distinguish depth (ect.). I don't disagree that they're a powerful product, but I do think that speakers/monitors are imperative for any producer. Thank you for sharing, I'll definitely consider trying them out the next time an opportunity arises!

Hello everyone,

I purchased the Beats about a year ago. Read the reviews, watched videos about them and decided that if I am going to get a pair of headphones, why not these?

I purchased mine on eBay ($255 + shipping). Seller was asking $310 and I made a best offer.

I really think they are great for making beats, especially in FL 9 (thats all I use, so might be good for other software programs. You can hear SO MUCH more when you are playing samples. I use my laptop, don't have external speakers and the Altec Lansing speakers in my HP aren't the greatest...NO BASS at all.

Well. with the Beats I can really hear how the sound is supposed to sound, and how it will sound when I put it on a CD or MP3.

And I also use them when I am doing housework and listening to music on my phone. (normally without the headphones I have my Samsung Moment on FULL VOLUME....but with the Beats I have to turn it half way down so that it doesn't hurt my ears (and they still thump).

I would recommend anyone who is interested in them, and has the money to spend to get them. Even if you only want them to listen to your music. They sound great and look great!!

And they are featured in DJ Hero 1, and DJ Hero 2....in numerous music videos and like others have said....NBA and NFL stars wear them. You might not be ballin like Moss or Lebron....but you can still rock the same headphones they have.

Thanks

Mike

I've seen Beats by Dre in a movie too, The Book of Eli (interesting movie, btw).

Dre is up on his grind with promoting them.

The sound is fine but they broke on me within 1 year -,-.
Maybe its because i have a big head but for 300 bucks??! comoooon.
Now i have to wait 4 weeks they gonna look if they can fix it.
I dont think they can because first of all, the 1st generation cables suck vacuum.
And it broke on 4 diffrent places ( where the plastic is folding a bit because you put it on your head if you know what i mean.)
So yea its shit but the sound quality is worth it.

I heard from a lot of people that they leak, so they're not good for tracking, and they boost certain frequencies so they're bad to mix on. If you want to use them for a reference that's cool but I wouldn't mix on these.

Yep thats another thing,
They leak like hell.
Its is not a studio headphone but they are great to listen to your track on after they are mixed (for example for stereo image)

The leaking is kinda bad, but if you wanna show off the beat while walking down the street there awesome. =P Like a sick car stereo, but on foot and it fits on your head.

I will also pass just because some loser NBA , NFL and who ever else considered to be a pro something wears them I WON't seems like a follower trend i will stick to my good ol'

20$ sony studio MDR V150's they get the job done and don't need batteries all you have to do to break them in is listen to music at a medium level and don't basss blast them when you first introduce them to your system.

Mdr V150- Sleek and stylish, comfortable, sound clarity, durable and compact.

Cons- None how can you complain they are 20 dollars.

Sound Quality 10/10

Price to Performance Ratio 9/10

Comfortable/Style 10/10

at 20$ the sony's deliver period

I bought some of these for my brother 2 Christmas' ago and he said they were really good...I'd forgotten all about them, but after reading this, I literally just bought them from Amazon.  £9.99 inc. p+p...bargain.

You gotta be a damn fool to buy Dre headphones for any reason. Or maybe you really need something to accessorize your centi-i mean iPad.

Personally, I have $20 panasonic in-ear headphones that I use when I make beats. When I mix I find that I have to test out my tracks on my speakers, headphones and car before I get a real feel for it. Then again my mixing skills aren't the greatest and are self-taught.. but if I had 4 bills I'd be buying some keys or somethin.

Maybe if you stopped mixing on $20 in ear headphones one of your tracks could make you your "4 bills"

Holla wanted to mention that i had the opputunity to compare the Bayerdynamics DT 990 Pro to all AKG headphones.

Buy the Bayerdynamics. The are loud and clear. Very linear and the low as well as high frequencies can be enjoeyd perfectly.

I am mixing with this hotties and also enjoying all your music on warbeats and rating your tracks that way. Finaly they are very comfortable and light so that you can wear them all the day. THats one of the most important aspects on studio headphones. Their weight.

Check em out.
