Lets face it, alot of us can't afford super high quality speakers that pound and display every nook and cranny of the mix. The cheap and effective method of getting around this is buying super high quality headphones that although are cheaper still portray the same sound quality.
Beats by Dr. Dr Studio High Definition Powered Isolation Headphones are a great alternative, even though the price is slightly steep is does the job and more.
- Beats uses two AAA batterys to power itself, which at first may seem like a stupid idea really helps the sub woofers in the headphones pound and gives it the extra power most headphones can't even dream of juicing themselves with. The battery life is so far excellent, use it around 2-3 hours a day since the start of the month and I have yet to see any signs of losing juice. The controls are basic and simple and thats all the headphones need, a simple switch on the side with an sleek red light shows when the headphones are currently turned on. I've used the beats an entire 19 hour bus ride and my ears never got uncomfortable. The headphones are actually really comfortable and it never leaks outside sounds to your ears so its easy to relax with these on, a definite plus. Also all the bitches love it.
Best Pros- Sleek and stylish, comfortable, sound clarity, durable but compact.
Worst Cons- Pricy.
Sound Quality 10/10
Price to Performance Ratio 9/10
Comfortable/Style 10/10
at 399.95 the beats deliver, If you got the cash, buy these. |

no personal thing but im against using those headphones for studio use, their not made for it, their made for simple listening and nothing more. if you wanna look cool and listen to some music while doing so, these are what you want. if you wanna put some audio work in, theres cheaper and much better alternatives. |

Mdr V150- Sleek and stylish, comfortable, sound clarity, durable and compact. Cons- None how can you complain they are 20 dollars. Sound Quality 10/10 Price to Performance Ratio 9/10 Comfortable/Style 10/10 at 20$ the sony's deliver period |

Actually i find sometme its better to mix in headphones, I know the difference between speakers and headphone sound, so when i put the headphones in, i can mentally compensate for whats lacking. i also use headphones to test the kick and other aspects of the mix, the majority of my music is for medicinal use anyways. SO if it sounds good in my caddy AND in my headphones, then Im content lol. BTW, I will be copping these. Thanks for the review B&E, I didnt know they used batteries. These arent headphones from some athlete, these are from the DR......u know, the CHRONIC, CHRONIC 2001, NWA, and countless other awesome, crispy clear mix havin ass tracks. He may come off as a little feminine to me lol (I may drop my theory on this when I have time), but nigga knows how to make shit sound good. |

Thanks WMC, yeah I agree with mastering on headphones, I find it seems way better. I also start the mix on the headphones to get rid of extra sounds then move into mixing with the speakers. Good Shit. |

http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-K141-MK...amp;sr=8-1
but you should go to a store and try them on, they can be a bit uncomftrable in long sessions.
You should get an external soundcard to connect your monitors to your computer, you dont have to tho. |

yeah that looks OK, but I havent tried it myself, you should read some reviews. And yes you can listen to music just for casual listening (which was a big part of the reason I bought monitors, I didnt have any good speakers to listen to). But I dont think we should continue discussing this here, you should create another thread (in hardware section) if there is anything else you want to know |

these are not for mixing as they boost certain frequencies. this is purely to enhance an average listener's experience while hearing their music. |
