There's been a lot of wonderful new features that have been added since I left that for sure, and I like them all very much however, the site does run kind of slow on my computer.... especially the navbar and comment box. I know it's not my end having the issues (or maybe it is). Anyone else having a problem and if they are, should the site scale down some of the special effects in it?
(This is probably in the wrong thread, sorry if it is....) |

I sometimes get a slow down when I'm opening dozens of topics at a time, but it's only a temport thing whilst the threads are loading, things like the navbar seem to be fine to me. What browser are you using, what download speed do you have and whats your computer specs? |

More importantly, where are you located, how is your ISP's routing to warbeats server (do a trace route). The new navb bar is about twice as fast as the old one and the site is lighter content wise aswell. The largest and slowest pieces would propably be the adverts served from a third party location. |

LOL @ TrackHouseBeats. No I'm using a LAN modem, highest speed (10MB) with Time Warner. Although my download speed is only 2.38MB. Ping is about 117... which is kind of high.... Every site loads in like 2-5 seconds or so. More specifically, the scrolling effects with the navbar and scrolling through words in the comment box if you use the "Add Reply" option. For some reason Quick Reply is fast as it is on every other site. |

Imho 2.4mb is a slow connection these days, but I would not worry about that too much. I would be more worried about your ping to the WB server. It looks like your ISP is routing traffic in a not so good manner. (I had this happen to me with one of my former ISP's, they suddenly decided to route my european traffic thru russia. Needless to say I changed ISP's quickly.) The menu scrolling effect is instant for me and also that should not be affected by slow access times. Once it is loaded it is loaded and should run smoothly. Sounds to me that there is something else clocking up your system. |

Thanks for replaying Sabotage - if ping is the issue, what should I do?
Could be spyware but I don't think so, I'm up-to-date on everything in the security department, and like I said everything works fine inside Firefox except these features on this site. |

Is warbeats the only site you have trouble viewing? Is your java and flash up to date? If the problem is your routing there is not much you can do about it. Other then contact your ISP or switch carriers. |

Yeah the Flash is up to date too. It's funny you mention Java though, that thing hasn't worked on this computer for years! Even the installers don't work, so I just removed it. It seems ok for most sites though.... |

17ms is pretty good for a ping time. It is most likely a plug-in you are using o rpossibly a third party element on this side. We only use google ads and the two ads you see on the side bar. I do host some images on amazon S3 but those should be cached by your browser. The WB servers are located in Los Angeles and if I'm reading that tracert correctly you are in tutstin/irvine so you are within about 60 miles which by Internet distance means you're close. If you havent already done so, compare it in different browsers and if you use FF, try it in safe mode with no plug-ins enabled just to see. We rely heavily on Javascript so definitely turn that on for WB. Make sure you don't go through any proxies as they are notoriously slow |

I wouldn't worry about those ads, like I said they're blocked so they don't even appear or load which means they can't slow me down. It'd probably go fast on Google Chrome but I'd rather not get a different browser just for one site....even if it is Warbeats. IE absolutely lags on EVERYTHING, taking sometimes up to 10 minutes to even appear after you click on it. So Firefox is my only option. Not that that's a bad thing. Javascript! That might be the culprit, I do use OpenDNS for my computer and now that you mention it, sites that rely on JS do load slower then non-JS sites overall. Is there's a way I could set it to be disabled just for this site only? |

Chrome is so clean and fast, I'll never go back to IE. Too many toolbars and junk that I never used. |

Sometimes deleting and reinstalling the latest Java can eliminate such problems at least it has for me. I have been using Chrome on and off the last couple of days... it is faster but old habits die hard I know how it is. |

Thanks A.G.C... And yeah I tried but Java doesn't like this computer. So whatever... Chrome is really lean I really did enjoy it when I had it, I might go back to it one day. I guess there's not much that can be done, it's not like I can't access the site it's just that the some of the high-content features move slower than just the plain HTML stuff. Not like the end of the world or ish. Thanks for all your help anyway guys. (thread can be closed now) |
