Right now i have a mic running to my mixer which is being ran into the line in port on my computer. It records that way but theres some noise in every recording and im sure its because its plugged in my line port jack. But the problem is i cant record anything when i run it to my mic jack. I dont know if i have to configure some settings or what but i cant get it to pick up any signal. HELPZ! so i can get rid of that white noise or whatever you call it and have a clear recording.

When you say line in are you talking about RCA Cable (red and white) or like a guitar cable with an 1/8" adapter going into the mic input on your computer?

I say RCA because my Behringer Xenyx came with a usb sound card. Most mixers do. Or you can go through the back outputs with a guitar cable with adapter. Makes sense if you look at a mixer ^_^

    BACK TO THE TOPIC:

White noise often happens with a phantom powered mic (condenser).

    1) use shorter XLR cable so it doesn't coil. The power going through the cable cause static if its too long.
    2) Check your gain level
3)turn off all unnecessary electronics (INCLUDING YOUR CELL PHONE)
    4) plug mixer and computer into a surge protector that's grounded

JUST THOUGHT OF IT!! The reason your mic doesn't work in your comp is most likely because it is a condenser mic

Can't help you with your technical details, but here's an easy way to clean up that white noise.

1.Open your audio file in Edison.
2.Highlight an instance of your white noise only.
3.Right click the "toothbrush" icon. This will acquire a noise profile, or "hear" what noise you want to extract form the entire audio.
4.Highlight the Entire audio selection and left click the "toothbrush". You can adjust which frequencies you want to extract the audio from using it's onboard EQ and preview the sound until you're happy with it.

    Good luck

yea its been awhile since i messed with it again so for an update:

it wouldn't record with it plugged in my mic jack because in my audio settings under recording, microphone wasn't selected! yea i feel pretty slow after that. and yea im using the rca jacks and there is still that white noise coming through. I did what you said dj with the toothbrush and it worked! sounds so clean now.

    thanks for the help fam!
